A 2018 Update for 3 of Our Largest Medigap Carriers

A 2018 Update for 3 of Our Largest Medigap Carriers

It’s 2018, and we want to give a state of the union of sorts for 3 of our largest Medigap carriers.

  1. Mutual of Omaha
  2. Manhattan Life
  3. Western United Life Assurance (WULA)

There’s a lot going on this year for these 3 carriers – perhaps you’ve even heard about some of this – but we’d like to go through it all together.

Manhattan Life Rate Reductions on Plan G

First off, we have Manhattan Life rate reductions on Plan G. These reductions are taking place in 12 key states:

  • PA
  • IN
  • NJ
  • MI
  • WV
  • AZ
  • OK
  • NC
  • KY
  • UT
  • CO

We’re also going to see new product releases in VA and IA. You’ve probably noticed, but Manhattan Life will have one of the most competitive rates in all of these states.

Western United Life New Product Release

Next up, we have Western United Life (WULA), who was just introduced into the market. They entered with a bang, and we’re really excited about their Med Supp for this year.

They have new product releases in 16 states:

  • AL
  • GA
  • IL
  • KS
  • LA
  • MD
  • MS
  • MT
  • ND
  • NE
  • NV
  • SC
  • SD
  • TN
  • TX
  • WY

Our Illinois agents should take a good look at WULA, while our Indiana guys should continue with Manhattan Life.

Manhattan Life and Western United Life Product Availability by State

We’ve mentioned this in the past few months, but WULA has the same outstanding e-app, and their home office staff is extremely easy to work with. That being said, their rates really speak for themselves.

Quarter 1 Agent Marketing Allowance Program

We did a video explaining how this bonus works, which you can watch here.

It’s a great way to get familiar with WULA while also making some extra cash.

Mutual of Omaha Broker Bonus Program

From February 1-March 31, 2018, you’ll receive a cash bonus when you sell at least 5 Medicare Supplements in a month. Policies that count toward the minimum include underwritten, open enrollment, and GI.

The bonus is $200 for each issued underwritten policy and $50 for each issued open enrollment policy. There is no bonus for GI or under 65 business, but GI policies do count toward your monthly minimum.

Eligible states include:

  • AL
  • AZ
  • FL
  • GA
  • IL
  • IN
  • MS
  • NV
  • NH
  • NJ
  • NM
  • NC
  • OH
  • OK
  • PA
  • SC
  • SD
  • TN
  • TX
  • UT
  • VA
  • WI

Note that business written in any state counts towards your five app minimum.

This cash bonus is truly one of the best incentives in the industry.

Mutual of Omaha Introduces Medicare Advantage

Starting in 2019, Mutual of Omaha will introduce Medicare Advantage plans.

While there isn’t a ton of information available yet, Chris Kolowich, Mutual of Omaha Account Rep at AIMC says, “It will likely be a small and methodical rollout, so a few markets to really nail down the product and work out any kinks with more markets to follow. It’s huge news for Mutual and the industry as a whole. Been a long time coming!”
