Are you afraid of change?
There's a motivational story called "Rebirth of the Eagle" about the life-cycle of a bald eagle that goes something like this:
The eagle has the longest life-span of its species; it can live up to 70 years. But to reach this age, the eagle must make a hard decision. In its 40's its long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food. Its long and sharp beak becomes bent. Its old and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, become stuck to its chest and make it difficult to fly.
The eagle is left with only two options: die, or go through a painful process of change which lasts 150 days. The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountaintop and sit on its nest.
There the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out. After plucking it out, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it will pluck out its talons. When its new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its old feathers.
And after five months, the eagle takes its famous flight of rebirth and lives for 30 more years.
This story isn't actually true, but we can still learn from the metaphor. It shows us we must always be willing to change to survive. The Medicare Supplement market has been in a state of constant change since 1966. We must be willing to get out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves to look at new markets and try new ideas that will allow us to be better than we were! The ability to push yourself, break old habits, and be willing to change your mindset will keep you growing in your life and business.
I'd like to challenge you to try something new this season. Ask yourself if there's something you've wanted to try before, but haven't followed through with. What do you need to do to make that happen this year?
Thank you for your business and we hope you'll let us know if there is anything we can do to help you while you're growing your new beak and talons.
